I grew up in a village near Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. After high school, I travelled to Costa Rica to participate in a six-month volunteering project in Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio. I enrolled in veterinary school at Utrecht University in 2003. After completing my pre-clinical studies, I participated in the Excellent Tracé program, an Honors Program that covers a twelve-month research project, in which I studied corticotroph pituitary adenomas in dogs.
Apart from my veterinary interests, I play the violin in a string quartet, tutor high school students studying to prepare them for biology exams and try to invest time in my greatest hobby - traveling. Next to summer holidays in Eastern Europe, I´ve spent the three months before the Leadership Program in South America, trekking through the Patagonian Andes.
I´m equally interested in clinical work and in veterinary research. For my future career, I see a combination of research and clinical work, preferably as a surgeon and educator.
