I was born in 1988 and grew up in a village near Nijmegen in The Netherlands. After high school, I enrolled in Veterinary School at Utrecht University in 2006. After completing my pre-clinical studies, I was asked to participate in the ‘Excellent Tracé’ Program in Utrecht. This veterinary honors program covers a twelve-month research project, in which I studied canine cortisol-secreting adrenocortical tumors. Currently, I am in my first year of clinical rotations and I hope to graduate at the end of 2013.
In my free time I really enjoy photography, horseback riding, reading and modern-jazz dancing. Since a few years, I am an active member of the Icelandic Horses Showteam ‘Sunnanvindur’. You can find us at several horse shows in The Netherlands.
I would like to pursue a career as a researcher/lecturer in veterinary internal medicine. Engagement in veterinary research combined with teaching look very appealing to me. Although I am interested in the clinical aspects of veterinary medicine, my absolute curiosity and enthusiasm for intellectual challenges assume that a career in private practice would probably not be satisfying to me. Nevertheless, after my DVM, I plan to go into general practice for a few years to develop good practical skills and to guide my interests into future research. I am convinced that the Leadership Program will contribute to the development of the research, teamwork and leadership skills necessary for my future career. It might also provide alternative career perspectives and make me decide what career path I want to follow.
