A detailed understanding of how infectious agents invade and propagate within host organisms and how in turn hosts defend themselves against such infection is crucial for development of new vaccines and treatments for infectious disease. Population studies can tell us much about how diseases are transmitted and flourish or vanish in a community or a niche.
