Dr. Njaa is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences with a joint appointment in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences. He graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in 1991 and spent the following five years in mixed animal practice in rural Saskatchewan. He returned to the WCVM to pursue graduate training in anatomical pathology. He completed a Masters degree (MVSc) in May 1999 and went to Purdue University to work at the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in West Lafayette, IN. In September 2000, he became board-certified in anatomical pathology and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). He joined the pathology group at Cornell University in the spring of 2001.

Research Interests

Dr. Njaa is particularly interested in infectious diseases of food and fiber animals and spontaneous disease arising in all species. Ample source material for these investigations comes from the high volume and diverse variety of cases submitted for pathological evaluation to the necropsy and surgical biopsy service. He is also interested in helping to develop new, innovative diagnostic tests related to infectious diseases and food-borne pathogens.
