Background: I grew up on a family farm in the northwest corner of Illinois where I developed a very early interest in animals and veterinary medicine helping care for our cattle, horses, and hogs. I received my B.S. in Dairy Science with Honors and Distinction from Iowa State in 2004. I will be entering my second year of veterinary medicine at Iowa State this fall and will graduate in 2008. Interests: I have always been an avid athlete and have enjoyed participating in many intramural sports during my time at Iowa State. I also enjoy all sorts of outdoors activities including biking, hiking, and horse back riding. Most recently, I have developed a passion for traveling, and in the last year have visited Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy; along with having visited Ireland, England and France previously. I am also very active in SCAVMA and special interest clubs at Iowa State. Career Goal: I eventually see myself in a research and teaching position, however, I am still undecided as to the exact path I wish to take to get there. I feel that it is important for me to first have some practical experience in a clinical setting, of which I am interested in dairy and equine practice. I eventually plan to complete a Masters/PhD, and my hope is that the Leadership Program will help me find an area of research that excites me. |
