Cornell Veterinary Medicine

Trisha Oura
Tufts University

Background: I am a New Englander at heart, having grown up in New Hampshire and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Biology. After living in Australia, Alaska, and Texas, I returned to the northeast to attend Tufts University and will graduate in 2008. Like so many others, my parents read me too many James Herriot novels as a child, and I was hooked on veterinary medicine since my first trips to the vet with our various family pets. After spending time studying marine biology and conservation, teaching, and working at a zoo and aquarium, I now hope to combine all my interests through veterinary medicine.

Interests: I'm an avid SCUBA diver and enjoy traveling and just about anything outside- hiking, kayaking, sailing, swimming. I'd love a spare moment to read something that isn't a textbook, watch a good movie, or listen to local music, but I'm pretty content to be lazy and nap in a hammock too. I'm active in student clubs, and really enjoy teaching middle school students about veterinary medicine through our Gap Junction program.

Career Goal: I'm working on finding that elusive perfect combination of clinical medicine with small and large animals/exotics/wildlife, teaching, and generally making a difference in the world. I wouldn't mind being able to dive on a regular basis while I'm at it!
