Cornell Veterinary Medicine

Johanna Rigas
Oregon State University

Class of 2008

Background: Originally, I came from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. After transplanting myself in the Pacific Northwest, I finished my undergraduate education in molecular and cellular biology at Western Washington University. From there I moved to Portland, Oregon where I worked doing biochemical research for five years at Oregon Health Sciences University. During that time, I acquired my Master's degree in biology at Portland State University. While working, I found that I had a desire to enter the veterinary medical field, which led me to Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Interests: In my limited free time, I enjoy exploring the various terrains of the Pacific Northwest. I always find some excuse to be outside whether it is kayaking, hiking, rock hounding, or just finding a good swimming hole. When the rain comes I spend some time inside doing various fiber art projects and belly dancing.

Career Goal: There are too many to list here. I intend to incorporate my interests in zoonotic and parasitic diseases, epidemiology, general medicine, and traveling.
