Cornell Veterinary Medicine

Ruth Schmitte
School of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover

Class of 2008

Background: I grew up in Soest, a small town in the middle of Germany. In school I developed a keen interest in Natural Sciences and became especially fascinated by biochemistry and genetics. As I also have always loved animals and spent a lot of my time on them, the study of Veterinary Medicine seemed to be the perfect combination of my interests. At present I am in my third year at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, and I hope that the Leadership Program will confirm my intention to work in research.

Interests: In my free time I enjoy horseback riding, biking and walking with my dog Felix. I also like theatre, reading and watching plays as often as possible. But mostly I enjoy spending time with my friends and going out with them.

Career Goal: I would like to collect some clinical experience first and then work in a research institute or at university dealing with genetics and cancer research.
