The Integration of Veterinary and Graduate Curricula

Year One: Options A & B

Note:  Starting the DVM curriculum in Year One is not an option

  • Three laboratory rotations over the course of up to one year, followed by the selection of and continued work in the thesis laboratory
  • Two core graduate courses from a recommended list of five course options
  • One or two additional graduate courses in the student's area of interest

Year Two

Year Two: Option A

Year Two: Option B

  • Start DVM curriculum
  • Continue working in thesis laboratory
  • Potentially take one or two graduate courses in the student's area of interest, as permitted by the DVM course schedule
  • Continue to work in thesis laboratory
  • Take graduate courses in student's area of interest
  • Take the PhD qualifying exam (A-exam)

Year Three

Year Three: Option A & B

  • DVM preclinical curriculum
  • continue working in thesis laboratory
  • Potentially take one or two graduate courses in the student's area of interest, as permitted by DVM course schedule

Year Four

Year Four: Option A

Year Four: Option B

  • Complete DVM preclinical curriculum
  • Continue working in thesis laboratory
  • Potentially take one or two graduate courses in the student's area of interest, as permitted by the DVM course schedule
  • Take PhD qualifying exam (A-exam)
  • DVM preclinical curriculum
  • PhD dissertation research

Note: The A-exam must be passed prior to beginning the DVM clinical rotations.

  • DVM clinical rotations
  • DVM board exams
  • PhD dissertation research
  • Complete DVM preclinical curriculum
