Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Laura Gey
Universtity of Veterinary Medicine Hannover
Background:I was born 1982 in Regensburg, Germany. When I was two years old, my parents moved to a town near Cologne, where I subsequently grew up. I attended high school from 1989 to 2002. Afterwards I completed a three-year apprenticeship in nursing in a hospital, specialising in psychiatry and psychotherapy. But I had always held onto my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. In 2006 I moved to Hannover to finally begin my studies of veterinary medicine.
Interests:I love spending time in the countryside and travelling. Before I commenced my studies, I spent four months in Australia on a working holiday, which was a wonderful experience. I have always been interested in sports, especially dancing, which is why I took up ballet after I moved to Hannover.
Career Goals:My career aspirations, while research oriented, also include the desire to teach. During my last term, I have been working as a research assistant at the department of anatomy, assisting the scientific personnel and focusing on teaching first semester students and conducting exams. I would like to explore the possibility of combining research, teaching and clinical work. I am convinced that the Cornell Leadership Program will assist me in paving my future career path.
