Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program

Background: I have been interested in natural history as long as I can remember, bringing home pet snails, caterpillars and other invertebrates to the bemusement of my parents. This early fascination later developed into a determination to study veterinary science and an interest in physiology, pathology and animal husbandry. This decision was also influenced by volunteering in a wildlife hospital for two years, which gave me practical experience in working with a variety of animal species. In August 2006, I participated in a research project investigating the effect of predation on an endangered chamois species in the Nizke Tatry mountains in Slovakia. I am currently studying in my second year at the University of Liverpool.
Interests: I am a keen musician. I play the violin in the university orchestra and passed Grade 8 on the piano. Unfortunately a piano won’t fit into my student house! I am a competitive fencer, specialising in epee, and I fence individually and for my university team. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my friends and family.
Career Goal: At the moment, I am pursuing a career in veterinary research, but being in my second year of study I still have time to decide my field of interest. I intend to intercalate after my third year and complete a PhD degree after I graduate. I would also like to work abroad as a veterinarian in a developing country to gain clinical experience and to expand my knowledge of other cultures. |
