Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Sandra LaBuda
Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine
Background:I was born and raised in Tonawanda, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. For my undergraduate education I attended the State University of New York at Geneseo, where I received a B.S. in Biology in December 2006. After graduation, I worked at the Buffalo Zoo as a groundskeeper and pre-veterinary intern, and volunteered for the SPCA’s Wildlife Department until my acceptance into the class of 2012 at Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. I am currently finishing up my first year of the DVM program and loving it!
Interests:I enjoy spending most of my free time (which has recently been lacking) outdoors, whether it be running, hiking, camping, kayaking, skiing, or otherwise. I am currently learning how to rock climb! I also enjoy nature photography, going to flea markets, and listening to music from the 60s and 70s.
Career Goals:After graduation from Veterinary school, I intend to continue my education with an internship or residency program. I also plan on applying to the dual DVM/PhD program here at Cornell to pursue my concurrent interests in the biological sciences and research. I am interested in the opportunities in the field Veterinary Medicine that go beyond general practice and would ideally like a career that incorporates Wildlife/Conservation Medicine and research. I am hoping that the Leadership Program will help to narrow my focus and better define my goals.
