Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Beth Licitra
Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine
Background:I grew up in a rural town in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. I completed my undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Biology. As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to take a class in veterinary entomology and became interested in veterinary medicine. After graduation, I took a fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia where I continued to research vector-borne diseases. Currently, I am a first year student in Cornell's DVM/PhD program where I am studying Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus.
Interests:I love watching and playing sports. I am a fan of the New York Mets and the New York Giants. I have an eighteen month old son named Dean and I love to spend as much time as possible with him. I enjoy the beach and the sun - two things I don't get very much of here in Ithaca!
Career Goals:I hope to practice medicine and continue my research at a veterinary research hospital. I also have an interest in human and animal public health and would consider spending some time working for the USDA or CDC. |
