Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Meredith Sherrill
Iowa State University
Background: While growing up, I lived in several Midwestern cities and graduated from high school in Nottingham, England. I attended Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. During my undergraduate career, I pursued my interest in veterinary medicine by working in a small animal clinic and completing an internship at the St. Louis Zoo in behavior research. Following my first year of veterinary school at Iowa State University, I was involved in a project of the Iowa State Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; I was also drawn my current mentor’s research on Mucopolysaccharidosis.
Interests: I enjoy running, listening to bassoon concertos, hiking in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and traveling internationally.
Career goals: I believe a career in scientific research would match my interests and desire to be a part of a collaborative academic environment. Although I have yet to identify a specific focus of study, I have been intrigued by the subjects of genetics, circadian rhythms, immunology, and virology. Hopefully, my participation in the Cornell Summer Leadership Program will allow me to further define my career goals and interests.
