Title: Structure/Function of P2X Receptors: Ion Access Pathway and Selectivity Mechanism
Annual Direct Cost: $196,753
Project Period: 09/01/2011-08/31/2014

DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): P2X receptors are ion channels widely distributed throughout the human body and play important roles in inflammatory response and pain sensation. My research objective is to understand mechanisms of how P2X receptors function at a molecular level, which may lead to design of novel pharmacological agents to treat inflammatory diseases and to relieve pain.
