Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC): The Core Service Program includes a substantial portion of all services provided in support of the animal industries in New York State. As part of its contract commitment, with the New York State Agriculture and Markets, the AHDC will provide the following services: general laboratory diagnostic testing, operation and management support services, consultation services, veterinary support services, test development and research, animal health information systems, export and intra-state testing, expert testimony, accreditation/certification, and performance criteria assessment.
Avian Disease Program: The Avian Disease Program (ADP) serves the consumers of poultry products from New York State by providing testing, monitoring, disease prevention programs, and consultation services to poultry producers. Under the New York State Agriculture and Markets contract, the ADP will continue to produce and distribute duck vaccines, support the New York State Egg Quality Assurance Program (NYSEQAP), support the Avian Influenza Program (AIP), maintain two regional laboratories for avian diagnostic testing, and provide, and enhance where possible, expedient testing, diagnosis, and reporting. Special emphasis will continue to be given to emerging and re-emerging diseases that can have an impact on poultry and/or human health.
Quality Milk Production Services Program: The Quality Milk Production Services (QMPS) Program will continue to serve the consumers, milk industry, and dairy farmers of New York State by providing testing, monitoring, disease prevention programs, and consultation services.
Food safety and animal health are major issues facing the dairy industry as a whole. The mastitis prevention program that QMPS promotes among dairies in New York State is instrumental in supporting efforts to improve the herd health and thereby the wholesomeness of the products produced. QMPS helps reduce the need for antibiotic treatment of mastitic cows, and also recommends management practices that reduce the likelihood of antibiotic residues in milk.
Rabies Vaccination Program: The Wildlife Oral Rabies Vaccination (ORV) Program continues in the St. Lawrence, Niagara and Erie Regions of New York State, as well as in strategic areas of New England (i.e., Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine). Vaccine-laden baits are distributed annually in the New York State area. Vaccine doses are also available over strategic areas in the New England States.
