We are eager to assist applicants and students in navigating the financial aid process. Admitted applicants who are interested in applying for financial aid should complete the required financial aid forms by the recommended deadline of February 1, 2011.
We also encourage alternates to complete the forms by February 1, 2011. In the event you are made an offer of admission, we will be able to put together a package for you so you can understand how much aid you will be eligible for as you make your decision.
Applying for financial aid does not have to be a confusing process and we are available to assist you as a first year student and throughout your time in the DVM degree program.
The required financial aid forms include:
Sources for Financial Aid include loans, gift aid, self help, and outside gift aid. Below represents sources of financial aid provided in 2009-2010.
Loans: Federal and campus based= 59%
Gift Aid: Grants, scholarships and fellowships= 19%
Self Help: Student earnings and parental contributions= 20%
Outside Gift Aid: State grants and private scholarships= 2%
The breakdown differs slightly from one class to another for various reasons. For example, first-year students are encouraged to concentrate on making a successful adjustment to the rigorous academic program and are advised not to make a large commitment to employment during the academic year. Therefore, a first-year student's package may contain a slightly larger percentage of loans than that of the average second-year student, who may be better able to afford a few hours each week to substitute earnings for borrowed funds.
Tuition and Fees for the 2011-2012 Academic Year:
New York State Resident $28,400
Non-New York State Resident $42,750
