Application Tips

  1. Transcripts need to come directly from the college/university attended. They cannot come to you to be sent on to us. Any transcripts coming directly from the student will be considered unofficial even though they are in a sealed envelope.

  2.
  3. The three evaluations sent to VMCAS do not have to be duplicated with the Cornell evaluation forms. However, if you have ADDITIONAL evaluations to send beyond the three you might consider sending them to Cornell using our evaluation forms.

  4.
  5. Please make sure to check your TRACKING PAGE often. This is our way of letting you know if your materials have been received. However, note that we can only track in information that appears on your application and tracking page. If you have not filled out your colleges or evaluators names we will not be able to track them in until they appear.

Additionally , try to avoid changing the order of your college(s) or evaluators as you originally input them if we have tracked in that document. That line has been tracked in and will not move with your change.

  6.
  7. The deadline for PREREQUISITE COURSES is September 15th. If you are planning to submit a substitution form you should do it soon!

  8.
  9. Deadline reminders:
    • October 2nd, VMCAS is due
    • October 5th, Cornell Supplemental Application preferred deadline (this includes all your supporting information)
    • November 1st, extended/final Cornell Supplemental Application deadline.

Prerequisite Courses

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How should I prepare academically in high school?
Take the highest level of courses you can. Additionally, make sure you gain experience in biology, chemistry, and physics courses. These courses will help you once you start college and begin work on your prerequisite courses. Additionally, take math and English courses. These are also areas that are important in your success in college.

  2.
  3. When do prerequisite courses need to be completed?
Final transcripts are due at the end of the spring semester before enrolling in the DVM degree program. All prerequisite courses will need to be completed by that deadline. At the time of application you can have up to 12 credits of prerequisite courses outstanding, but would need to have all completed with grades of C- or better by the end of the spring term as stated above.

  4.
  5. Are there specific times I can visit campus and take a tour?
Presentations and tours are conducted typically once a month on a Friday afternoon. We do not arrange individual tours. Our students are not available on a regular basis to conduct tours due to their academic schedules. We also need to limit the number of people in our facilities and hospital as both are very busy and groups, even small ones are difficult to work around. The Fall 2006 Presentation schedule is above.

  6.
  7. Does Cornell require a fall transcript?
You are welcome to send a transcript from the fall, but are not required to do so. Final transcripts are required at the end of the spring term before enrolling in the DVM degree program.

  8.
  9. When should I apply for financial aid?
We recommend you complete the FAFSA and CSS Profile by February 1st.
