Immunohistochemistry Training
Department of Biomedical Sciences

(1) Contact Pat Fisher for an appointment to discuss your project:

  • antibodies you would like to try
  • issue types and species, sectioning fixed vs. frozen samples
  • project goals, hypothesis, time frame
  • scheduling

(2) Training: Day 1

  • bring your sections (fixed paraffin embedded, frozen sections, or TC preps)
  • supply your primary antibody, all other reagents and controls will be provided
  • learn the basics, theory and application, positive and negative controls
  • observe and participate in immunostaining protocol (your antibody and samples)

(3) Training: Day 2

  • hands on, try the procedure with guidance as needed

(4) On Your Own

  • continue trouble shooting your antibody in your own lab, or...
  • the Immunopathology Laboratory and reagents are available (see fee schedule)

(5) Cryosectioning

  • a cryostat is available in the laboratory for frozen sectioning on a sign-up basis (see fee schedule), this includes instruction in use of the instrument and in methods for freezing samples.
