Carl A. Batt

Department of Food Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences,

My group is exploring a variety of different areas in biotechnology, namely the application of technology to understand and hopefully solve biological problems.
Our overall interests lie in the general area of the design and production of biologicals for use in a variety of applications including biosensors, therapeutics
and as materials. We also have a laboratory that is devoted to a partnership with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer research. Finally, I serve as the Co-director of the Nanobiotechnology Center, a new NSF supported Science and Technology Center.

My laboratory is engaged in the following efforts:

• to identify and characterize genes and biochemical pathways involved in
xxbiopolymer production

• to express tumor antigens in recombinant systems as a means to make xximmunotherapeutic agents

• to design and deliver unique sensors based in part upon custom
xxdesigned and produced biocomponents
