Fire Drills - Our office coordinates scheduled fire drills with campus Environmental Health and Safety as required by New York State. We respond to all fire alarms.

Fire Safety Inspections - Our office coordinates inspections of all buildings annually as required by New York State. The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) has supplied the following list to guide the university in preparing for inspections that are conducted "while the students are here". Please use this as a guide only - it is not an all-inclusive list of all the potential violations.

 1. Property, equipment and materials shall be properly maintained.
 2. Structurally unstable building shall be made safe or demolished.
 3. Vacant Buildings shall be secured to prohibit unauthorized entry.
 4. Exits shall be maintained to provide free and unobstructed egress.
 5. No barrier, lock or fastening device shall be installed on an exit.
 6. Materials shall not be placed or kept in stairways or corridors.
 7. No aisle or passageway shall be obstructed so as to reduce its required width as an exit.
 8. Exit access and exit discharge shall not be impeded.
 9. Aisles shall be maintained in open floor areas where exits are not immediately accessible.
10. Interior and exterior exits shall be adequately lighted at all times.
11. Exit and directional signs shall be maintained in clean and legible condition & shall be illuminated.
12. Directional exit signs shall be provided.
13. Elevator warning signs shall be provided.
14. Rated doors shall be properly maintained.
15. Fire, exit, stair and smoke-stop doors shall be kept closed at all times.
16. Use of doorstops, wedges, or other nonautomatic hold-open devices is prohibited.
17. Combustible material shall not be permitted within 10 feet of any liquefied petroleum gas container.
18. Electrical wiring shall be firmly secured.
19. Over current protection devices shall be maintained in safe operating condition.
20. Grounding of electrical wiring and equipment shall be maintained.
21. Nonmetallic extension cords shall not be used in place of permanent fixed wiring.
22. Flexible cords and cables shall not be run through holes in walls, ceilings, floors, etc.
23. Exposed wiring shall be protected against physical damage.
24. Hoods, grease removal devices, and other devices shall be maintained clean and free of grease.
25. Fixed automatic fire exiting, systems for range hoods shall be maintained in proper condition.
26. Water-based fire protection systems shall be properly inspected, tested and maintained.
27. Portable fire extinguishers shall be properly installed and maintained.
28. Portable fire extinguishers shall be based on the hazard involved.
29. Portable fire extinguishers shall be appropriate, visible and conspicuously identified.
30. Portable fire extinguishers shall be maintained in proper operating condition.
31. Fire alarm systems shall be maintained in proper operating condition.
32. Fire alarm boxes shall not be obstructed.
33. Proper instructions for use of fire alarm boxes shall be conspicuously posted.
34. Install sign: "LOCAL ALARM ONLY - NOT CONNECTED TO FIRE DEPT., CALL FIRE DEPT. BY TELEPHONE.
35. Fire and smoke detecting systems shall be properly maintained.
36. Elevator machine rooms shall be properly maintained.
37. Elevator hoistways and pits shall be free of debris.
38. Occupancy postings shall be provided.
39. Apparatus using fuels in portable containers for food prep are not permitted in assembly spaces.
40. Operation & Maintenance of labs using chemicals shall be in conformance with reference standards.
41. Flammable or combustible liquids shall not be stored in means of egress.
42. Incompatible chemicals shall be adequately separated.
43. Chemicals shall be properly stored.
44. Compressed gas cylinders shall be properly secured.
45. Cylinders shall be protected against vehicle damage.
46. Vegetation, waste and refuse that constitute a hazard shall be removed.
47. Waste and refuse shall be properly stored until removed.
48. Combustible waste shall properly disposed of to prevent unsafe accumulations.
49. Combustible waste and refuse shall be properly disposed of to prevent unsafe accumulations.
50. Portable heaters shall properly separated from combustibles and maintained.
51. Portable electric heaters shall be provided with tip over switches.
52. Fire safety equipment shall be maintained operable at all times.
53. Required fire safety signs shall be maintained at all times.
54. Provide proper fire safety and procedure training for persons at facility w/hazardous materials.
55. Persons regularly at facilities with alarm systems shall be properly trained in evacuation procedure.
56. Fire Department shall be notified of all fires.
57. Fire Department shall be notified of all hazardous conditions.
58. Regulations that cause a delay in notifications to the Fire Department are prohibited.
