Advancing the health and well-being of animals and people

Departments & Units

The academic departments and various units in the College of Veterinary Medicine exemplify the broad scope of research, education and services the College offers.

Biomedical Sciences Molecular Medicine

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is comprised of faculty engaged in research in the areas of cell and developmental biology, genetics, pathology, and physiology.

The Department of Molecular Medicine focuses on three major areas of research: signal transduction, cancer cell biology, and receptor and ion channel mechanisms.

Clinical Sciences Population Medicine & Diagnostic Sciences

The Department of Clinical Sciences contributes to classroom and laboratory teaching throughout the curriculum, provides clinical training of DVM professional students, interns and residents through their professional service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, and values both clinical and basic research.

The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences' mission is to promote health, productivity, and welfare of food- and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and wildlife populations; ensure safety of foods of animal origin; and prevent animal disease with its associated risks to human health.

Microbiology & Immunology Baker Institute for Animal Health

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is engaged in research in infectious disease and host immune response. They study a range of pathogens, including viruses, bacteria and parasites, and other insults such as toxins. Their immunology interests stretch from understanding immune protection to vaccine development.

The James A. Baker Institute for Animal Health is one of the oldest research centers dedicated to the study of veterinary infectious diseases, immunology and genetics. Discoveries made at the Baker Institute have important implications for all animals, including humans.
