John Tait, DVM, MBA, is AAHA’s new president. Dr. Tait came to veterinary medicine with a background in business. He received his certified financial planner degree from the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning at the University of Toronto and has an MBA from McMaster University in Ontario. He is currently managing partner of the Ontario Veterinary Group in Toronto, and he serves as a part-time assistant professor and externship coordinator for the Ontario Veterinary College, Department of Clinical Studies. Dr. Tait received his DVM from the University of Guelph.

Dr. Alexia Maclae is one of the team members of Pfizer's Specialty Hospital Services, which is a team of 10 veterinarians across the country working with the veterinary schools and the specialty referral hospitals. Prior to joining Pfizer, Dr. Maclae was with a private investment banking firm, Hoganson Venture Group, based out of Chicago, IL. Working as an intermediary in the animal health and pet products industries, Dr. Maclae was an integral part of several mergers and acquisitions within those fields. Dr. Maclae was awarded a Certified Business Intermediary designation in 2005. She has done practice management consultation for more than 100 hospitals nationwide. In 2000 she joined Banfield, the Pet Hospital, as a regional manager of development and proceeded to offer a new business concept, veterinary franchises, to veterinarians in the northeast and central part of the country. She also owned and operated a small animal and exotic practice, Pet's Choice, in the Columbus, Ohio, area for 8 years. She received her undergraduate degree form Cornell University in 1985 and her DVM from the Ohio State University in 1990.

Iowa State University

As noted professor, Dr. McCurnin, DVM, MS, DACVS has given more than 550 papers and presentations at professional meetings and seminars in the United States and 30 foreign countries; published over 160 scientific articles; and contributed to eleven textbooks. He has served as professor of surgery and director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Colorado State University, and as professor of surgery and hospital director at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana State University. Dr. McCurnin is currently professor and director of continuing education at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University.

BALANCING VETERINARY MEDICINE WITH THE REST OF YOUR LIFE - IS IT POSSIBLE?
Speaker: Christine Armao, DVM
Cornerstone Veterinary Hospital, Ithaca, NY
Dr. Armao graduated from the NYS College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. After practicing in Glens Falls and Brockport, NY, for several years, she returned to Ithaca in 1996. She continued as an associate veterinarian before opening Cornerstone Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Anne Shakespeare in 2006. Dr. Armao is a member of the AVMA and current president of the Southern Tier Veterinary Medical Society. She lives in Lansing with her husband, 2 sons, and various critters.
