Research/Clinical Interests

I have a great interest in the areas of Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Perioperative care, and Pain Management. I also have an intense desire to integrate many other areas of internal medicine diagnostics and therapeutics (oncology, ultrasound, physical therapy) into a solid referral service and extended teaching curriculum. Pain management has been an overlooked aspect of our profession which allows assimilation of many areas of veterinary knowledge. This unique branch of patient care encompasses many avenues of therapy that have classically evaded most of our diagnostic and therapeutic spectrums. From outpatient services which address chronic pain syndromes associated with oncology, geriatric, and degenerative disease, through acute intensive and surgical analgesia, to behavioral and rehabilitative medicine, the opportunity to diagnose and treat patients with painful or debilitative issues has become my focus and personal challenge.

I enjoy the ability to interact with our clients and patients over these often complex problems and the attempt to provide for multiple options of medical and surgical resolve. We have the unique opportunity to address the issues of perioperative care, anesthesia and analgesia, and emergency medicine in a teaching hospital that integrates collective thought of multiple specialties in both small and large animal medicine/surgery as part of its DVM and postdoctoral curriculum. I am proud to be part of the Cornell Hospital for Animals as it greets the questions of why and how with sound scholarly advancement, excelling client/patient services, and of course, compassion.
