Nita Irby is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and has focused on equine ophthalmology since 1985. She received her DVM from the University of Georgia in 1980. She completed an internship at Cornell University and residency training in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania, then served as the staff ophthalmologist at the New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty at Cornell in 1997. She has been married for 30 years to an equine internal medicine specialist, has two adult children, a lot of dogs and 6 pet chickens.
