Hospital Services

Unfortunately, many medications just simply taste bitter. And, many pets are reluctant to take medications. (It is kind of interesting, to think about what seems to taste good to a dog and what doesn't, isn't it?)

Adding flavoring to some liquid medications can sometimes help to encourage our pets to accept their medications. While not all commercial products are compatible with flavoring, most of the compounded suspensions which we make can be flavored. Ask us, and we will let you know.

Flavoring MUST be ordered by your Veterinarian, as part of the prescription, at the time that the prescription is ordered.

We stock several different flavors and have found that cats most readily accept chicken, tuna or fish flavors. Dogs seem to prefer chicken or beef flavors. Favorites for other pets include banana bread, pina colada, peanut butter, grape, and watermelon. We have plenty of others, too, and cen help you find something just right for your pet. Yum!

Compounded Preparations

Many medications used in the world of human treatment are also used to treat our pets and other animals. Unfortunately, however, medications do not work with a one-size-fits-all approach. Across all species, animal pharmacology requires the use of a wide variety of dosing approaches for most medications.

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) Pharmacy compounds a large variety of medications to meet the specialized needs of your animal. Below, you can find a listing of compounded medications which the CUHA Veterinarians tend to typically rely upon and that are available at the CUHA Pharmacy. The integrity and stability of all of our compound formulas have been thoroughly researched and are referenced by standard pharmaceutical compounding texts such as Trissel's Stability of Compounded Formulations and The International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding.
