Education

Our educational program includes the DVM curriculum, resident training, continuing education for practitioners and technicians and the public. In addition to numerous educational web pages, we have an extensive digital teaching file of medical images that is accessible to students and residents.

DVM Curriculum

We have teaching responsibilities in three of the seven Foundation courses and participate in many other Foundation and Distribution coursess. During the first year, we teach a laboratory course on radiographic anatomy. During the third year, we teach a combined lecture and laboratory course on the diagnostic interpretation of medical images. During the fourth year, we teach a 2-week clinical rotation in medical imaging that emphasizes image acquistion, image quality and interpretation. Third- and fourth-year students also may take an elective course in alternate imaging. Students also may sign up to present rounds during the semester.

Residency Program

The residency program is a 3-year program designed to provide specialty training to veterinarians in diagnostic and intervential radiography, ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Training includes both small and large animals. After completion of the program, the resident is elligible to take the board-certification examination of the American College of Veterinary Radiology and perform successfully in either an academic or specialty practice.
