Mammary stem cells
Our laboratory is focused on the isolation and characterization of stem cells from the mammary gland (MaSC) of different animal species. We are interested in these cells because stem cells are believed to govern development of many different cancers, including breast cancer. Therefore, studies on how MaSC regulate their stem cell properties will lead to tools for effective identification of cancer cells and will provide new strategies to target them for destruction.
