Dr. Robert E. Clark Dr. Robert E. Clark passed away August 7, 2006 in Ithaca, NY after a brief period of hospitalization.

Dr. Clark graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1952 after completing his undergraduate studies at Conesus College. He was affiliated with the Miller-Clark Animal Hospital in Mamaroneck, NY for 46 years - 35 years as co-owner and 11 as sole owner of the practice.

Dr. Clark was an active member of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society since his Cornell graduation. In 1969, he was one of the youngest veterinarians ever to be named New York State Veterinarian of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions. At that time he had already served as executive board member and president of the Westchester/Rockland Veterinary Medical Association, and as the first secretary and later as president of the New York State Association of the Professions.

Dr. Clark was elected to the NYSVMS executive board in 1978 and quickly made his mark as a thoughtful, energetic and productive leader. He was nominated and elected 1979 NYSVMS president-elect and served as president in 1980.

The NYSVMS honored Dr. Clark in 1998 with its highest award, the Distinguished Life Service Award, in recognition of his outstanding service to the veterinary society and profession of veterinary member. In his acceptance remarks, he gave thanks to his wife, Marilyn, their children and other family members who gathered to congratulate and see him accept the award.

A strong supporter of Cornell University, Dr. Clark was a member of the Cornell University Council and served as chairman of the Veterinary College Development Committee and the Veterinary College Annual Fund. He was also president of the Veterinary College Alumni Association in 1986 and 1987. In recognition of his exemplary work on behalf of the College, Dr. Clark was awarded the prestigious Daniel Elmer Salmon Award for Distinguished Alumni Service in 1991.

Dr. Robert E. Clark was loved by clients for his kindness and dedication to the well-being of their pets. He was a veterinary leader and an icon. His generosity of spirit, boundless energy, great warmth and unwavering commitment to veterinary medicine will long be celebrated by those who follow in his footsteps of fellowship, volunteerism and commitment to the animals they have promised to safeguard.

Dr. Clark was a member of the Alpha Psi fraternity and City Club of Ithaca. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Blair and daughters Lynn and Melissa and seven grandchildren. Sister-in-law Charlotte and her husband Richard Plath live in Vermont. Mary Clark Eberhard, sister and brother-in-law Jack Eberhard live in Rochester, NY. Dr. Clark's brother Edward Clark and sister-in-law Patricia Kenneday Clark live in Texas.
