Senior Week and Commencement - 2006
Address to the Interns and Residents
This brings us to recognition of the interns and residents who are coming to the ends of their programs. Celebrations like this remind me of how fortunate I am to work with such a gifted and generous community of students, staff, house officers, and faculty that make up the world of the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine.
I am especially pleased to be able to recognize our Residents and Interns, who have completed between one and three years of challenging, rewarding and sometimes grueling training programs. I have seen them grow as veterinarians and as individuals through the exhilaration of success, and through the hard and illuminating lessons of honest failure.
To our interns and residents, I would like to say that I hope you leave us with confidence, knowledge and insights into both yourselves as well as your respective specialties .. and I thank you on behalf of all of us for everything you have done. You have given our students and our entire community your energy, your enthusiasm, and your commitment to the advancement of the profession of veterinary medicine.
You will be greatly missed when you leave in a few short weeks, but your impact on the veterinary profession is just beginning. We know we will see you at conferences around the world and back here at Cornell, because you will certainly be among the profession's leaders of tomorrow.
