Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Background: I was born and raised in Florida and attended college at Emory University in Atlanta where I majored in Biology and Environmental Studies. Research during my undergraduate studies included work on HIV/SIV and SV40 pathogenesis. Following graduation, I moved to Cambodia under the auspices of the Henry Luce Foundation where I undertook work with the Wildlife Conservation Society including monitoring for and responding to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1). I also designed and implemented livestock health interventions to support local conservation efforts in the remote Mondulkiri Province. I am currently enrolled in the Dual Degree (DVM/PhD) Program at Cornell University where I have further cultivated my interest in the epidemiology and mathematical modeling of emerging infectious diseases. Interests: I am a natural explorer and love the outdoors and traveling. Outside of the lab, I like getting active with most any sport (racquetball as a recent favorite), reading, and spending time with friends. I love the idea of cooking although I am not particularly proficient at it; if you are willing to offer a lesson, I will gladly burn and share your favorite dish anytime. Career Goal: I would like to apply the tools of epidemiology to address emerging problems in conservation medicine and zoonotic disease at the international level. |
