Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program
Background: I grew up surrounded by the bush in Sydney, Australia. Living in the Blue Mountains has afforded us the opportunity to have our own little farm of animals including chickens, ducks, cats, dogs and fish. At one stage, a donkey and goat were on the cards! I have a strong interest in epidemiology which led me to undertake research between my fourth and fifth year of veterinary science. My project was examining the risks of foot and mouth disease involving pigs at agricultural shows. Interests: I really enjoy being actively involved in the community and organisations including the Australian Veterinary Association, United Nations Society and Australian Science Communicators. In my free time, I write for student publications, don't say no to a good debate, play tennis and go bush walking and camping. Career Goal: My questioning nature and desire to learn has prompted my ambition to embark on a PhD degree after graduating in veterinary science. Ultimately, I wish to make a significant contribution to our understanding of emerging infectious diseases and zoonoses, with findings benefiting both animals and humans. My intention is to do this through an academic position in epidemiology/public health. |
