Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program

Kristin Lewis

University of California, Davis
Class of 2010

Background: I was born in New Jersey, spent a few years in the middle of the country (Wisconsin and Texas) and then moved to California, where I've lived the longest. As an undergraduate, I attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA, receiving a BS in microbiology. Following graduation, I worked as a research associate in preclinical drug safety assessment at Genentech. While there, I realized that I wanted to better understand the work I was doing, so I went back to school. I'm currently a first-year student at UC Davis and am enjoying the opportunities that come with being a student.

Interests: In my (limited) spare time, I enjoy exercising, hanging out with friends and family, listening to music, watching tv, baking, shopping, any anything else that comes along.

Career Goal: I am interested in becoming a veterinary pathologist specializing in toxicologic pathology, following in the footsteps of my mentors at work. My training plan starts with completing vet school, followed by an anatomic pathology residency, and finally, supplementing my clinical training with research training by acquiring a Ph.D. (subject to be determined). I'm looking forward to the Leadership Program and am hoping it will help me find an area of research that excites me.
