Cornell Summer Research and Leadership Program

Fiona McNeill

University of Bristol
Class of 2009

Background: I grew up and went to school in Northamptonshire, England before leaving home to study Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol in 2003. I wanted to be a vet to follow in my father's footsteps, having grown up helping out in his small animal practice. After finishing my 3rd year at Bristol I decided to spend a year intercalating in Veterinary Pathology at the Royal Veterinary College, London, where I did a research project on Inflammatory Bowel Disease in dogs. Next year I will be returning to Bristol to complete the last two years of my veterinary degree.

Interests: My hobbies include swimming, and when I'm at home I love to spend time walking with my three dogs. I also engage in obedience and agility training with them when I get the chance. I really enjoy traveling, and hope to visit a lot of places on the East Coast while I am at Cornell. To relax I like watching films, shopping and going out with my friends.

Career Goal: I would like to be able to combine clinical work with some research and possibly teaching. I am interested in initially going into practice then perhaps doing a residency. I hope that the leadership program will give me more of an insight into the opportunities available outside of general practice.
