Annemarie Voorbij

Utrecht University
Class of 2009

Background: I grew up in Alkmaar, The Netherlands. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to become a veterinarian. To pursue this dream, I started my Veterinary Medicine study in 2001 at Utrecht University. During my study, I became fascinated by the scientific world and I developed the ambition to become a specialist in Veterinary Internal Medicine. For that reason, I chose to follow the Excellent Track program during a 15-month period, instead of a 3-month research period that is standard for students at my institution. I had a wonderful year that exceeded my expectation. Currently, I am in my fifth year and hope to graduate in 2009.

Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing the piano, dancing and I love to travel. During my student years, I have organized many student activities. I still am an active member of a student association.

Career Goal: I pursue a career as a Veterinary Internal Medicine specialist at a veterinary faculty, because I want to engage in long-term veterinary research, provide a high level of clinical care to my patients and I would very much like to teach students.
