Scientific Research & Clinical Practice
Discovery in scientific research ultimately informs the practice of medicine for all species. Likewise, the processes and treatment of disease influence, and at times direct, scientific research. It is this interface between discovery and application that forms the basis of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s research mission. The College maintains strong programs in a wide range of disciplines. Additionally, four basic areas of research excellence --comparative genomics, infectious disease control, cancer research, and comparative reproductive medicine – are the focus of the College’s specific research plan.
Research at the College focuses on the translational nature of scientific research and the essential importance of collaborative and multidisciplinary study. Funding from a number of government and private sector sources helps to create multidisciplinary Centers and research cores.
Dr. Robin Davisson has laboratories on the Cornell Ithaca and Cornell Weill campuses.
Our faculty are committed to scientific excellence and progress as a means to exploring and enhancing animal and human health. College faculty collaborate with faculty from across the Cornell Ithaca campus as well as the rest of the international Cornell community, including the Weill Cornell Medical Colleges in New York City and Doha, Qatar. Collaborations also take place with researchers at other institutions, for instance, the Smithsonian National Zoo Conservation and Research Center and the Cancer Center at Roswell Park.
