The services we provide:

Outpatient and referral appointments: Veterinarians trained in animal pain management are available to see your pet. Please call our phone room (607) 253-3060 or (607) 253-3296 to schedule an appointment with the Animal Pain Management Service

Inpatient consultations: these are normally arranged through the receiving service or through the primary clinician for hospitalized cases; they are performed on a twice daily basis or to fit emergent needs of any patient as needed. Surgical pain management consultations are performed on every patient receiving anesthesia.

Public voicemail hotline and email service: Information on animal pain and health care has burgeoned during the last few years. However, this abundance of information makes it very difficult for practitioners and owners to stay current on the newest developments to treat animal pain and lessen their suffering. In response to this need, our consultation service attempts to make information available in a timely, efficient and accessible manner. Our Animal Pain Management Service consulting veterinarians answer your specific questions, giving expert advice based on the most current information available.

By calling our Animal Pain Voicemail hotline, a member of our staff will assist you in obtaining information and, if consultation is requested, guide you through a brief intake process. A nominal fee of $25/case will be charged for most cases and payment can be made by MasterCard, Visa, or Discover credit cards. After reviewing your questions and concerns, a veterinarian trained in pain management will contact you directly. Typically, calls are returned within 24-48 hours. To enlist this service, please call our hotline at (607) 253-3296, or complete our Consultation questionnaire (see "how to contact us") and email this to animalpainhelpdesk@cornell.edu

Referring veterinarian consultation service: The referring veterinarian consultation service is provided for VETERINARIANS ONLY to initiate communication with our professional staff that enables them to capture pertinent case information for teaching and service purposes. The goal of this Veterinarian Consultation Service is multi-fold: a) to assist referring DVMs with formulating a quality perisurgical and anesthesia/sedative plan for their patients and procedures b) to be your veterinarian's partner in actively treating their patient's medical, oncologic, or surgical pain, stress, and rehabilitation; and c) to help our referring veterinarians improve or to discuss their practice's anesthetic, perisurgical, intensive care and analgesic methods, materials, drugs, and training.

If you are a referring veterinarian who is interested in subscribing to this service, which also handles similar on-line consults for the departments of medicine, surgery, imaging, oncology and behavior, please phone Ms. Marci Benda at (607) 253-3786.

If you are a referring veterinarian who is actively referring a case to us for an episode of care, please do not utilize this website. Instead, please call Cornell University Hospital for Animals Referring Veterinarian Services at (607) 253-3003 (small animal) or (607) 253-3100 (large animal).
