College Grants
A limited number of College grants are available. The index of need is calculated by subtracting from the cost of education the imputed student/spouse/parent contributions and any College scholarships awarded.

State Grants
Financial assistance based on family income is provided to students who are legal residents of New York, Vermont and certain other states. Eligible students must apply for these awards before accepting other financial aid and submit a copy of the award notice to the CVM Financial Aid Office immediately on receipt.

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Summer Course Program
During the academic year, the maximum TAP award to a New York State graduate/professional student is $550. Summer-term TAP awards are prorated for the length of term, and therefore may be less than a full semester award. If summer enrollment in another curriculum does not require TAP application, it is usually prudent to reserve the six graduate semesters of TAP eligibility for academic-year award periods. Preprinted applications are mailed directly to New York State resident students who list a New York State school on their FAFSA application. Questions about eligibility should be directed to the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, TAP, 99 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12255 or call 1-888-NYSHESC. The College of Veterinary Medicine's school code is 5665.

Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship
Students who have been legal residents of New York State for one year prior to application, who are economically disadvantaged, and who are members of certain minority groups (Black, Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native) may be eligible for support from the Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship Program (RPOS). There is a service agreement which requires that the recipient practice in New York State for one year for each academic year of support. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year. Applications should be requested in November or December from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC), 99 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12255. Applicants must also file a TAP application. Awards are conditional on funding by the State legislature.

Outside Resources
Additional resources identified at any time after submitting the financial aid application(s) must be promptly reported to the Financial Aid Office. If an offer of financial aid has already been made, it will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary to ensure that total resources do not exceed calculated need. Receipt of outside scholarships or loans will first cause any unsubsidized loans in the student's package to be reduced, then campus-based loans would be reduced by any remaining over award amount.

NOTE:
All scholarship and grant funds received in excess of amounts used for payment of tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment are considered taxable income for U.S. income tax purposes. It is the students' responsibility to report this income on the tax return.
