The College of Veterinary Medicine offers two wage-subsidy programs which benefit students interested in self help through employment.
Federal Work Study Program (FWS)
The Federal Work Study Program increases opportunities for
student employment by reimbursing employers on campus or in certain
non-profit organizations off campus 50% of wages paid to eligible
students. Eligibility to participate is based on financial need
as evidenced by analysis of the FAFSA.
Federal Work Study funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served
basis. Eligible students wishing to participate must first find
employment and then come to the Financial Aid Office to complete
the Application for Academic-year Employment Subsidy. A notice
of the amount of Federal Work Study funding allocated (if any)
will be provided to the student, with copies to the employing
department(s). The maximum award per student is $750 per semester.
Eligibility for summer Federal Work Study funding, when available,
is based on the financial need analysis from the prior academic
year. Summer Federal Work Study earnings must, according to federal
regulations, be applied to the following academic year's expenses,
and may not be replaced with need-based education loans. The funds
remaining for summer Federal Work Study employment are usual very
limited.
Veterinary Student Employment Program (VETSEP)
The College offers a wage-subsidy program to students in the
professional curriculum employed in certain types of veterinary-related
positions within the College. As with FWS, available monies are
allocated to eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students wishing to participate must first find employment, then
come to the Financial Aid Office to complete the Application for
Academic-year Employment Subsidy. A student who has more than
one job must list each job separately on the application. Notification
of the amount of subsidy approved (if any) is sent to the student
and to each employing department. Support is limited to positions
paying at least $6.50 per hour. The maximum award per student
is $1,500 per academic year ($750 per semester) on total eligible
earnings of $3,000.
Summer funding may be available on a limited bases. Students must
complete 130 hours of employment during the academic year in the
same job for which summer funding is being requested.
