Biosketch

A native of New York City (DeWitt Clinton H.S.), Dr. Evans received his BS ('44 in absentia) and PhD ('50) degrees from Cornell University. he was a student in entomology (1940-42), on-leave in the US Army (1943-46), a graduate teaching assistant in Zoology (1946-50), and then a faculty member in the Veterinary College (1950-present). He taught Gross Anatomy of the horse and cow for seven years, anatomy of the dog for thrity-six years, and anatomy of the bird and fish for a similar period. He was Secretary of the College for 12 years and served as Chairman of Anatomy from 1976 to 1986 when he retired. Upon his retirement from full-time teaching, he was reappointed to the faculty without salary and still lectures in several courses.

Dr. Eavans has served as President of both the American and The World Association of Veterinary Anatomists, and was an associate editor of the American Journal of Anatomy and Journal of Morphology. He is an Honorary member of Phi Zeta ('56) , an Honorary member of the AVMA ('70), and an Honorary member of the Alumni Association of the N.Y. State College of Veterinary Medicine ('96). For five years he was a member of the Cornell Board of Trustees.

He and his wife, Erica have led education trips for the Cornell Adult University to the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Sapelo Islands Georgia, East Africa and Papua, New Guinea. Their latest C.A.U. trip was to South Africa in January 1996. They have two children with families, Gail in Indiana and Edward in Pennsylvania.
