Performance:
The research of the Farnum Lab includes a wide variety of morphologically based techniques in support of several concurrent research programs studying the cellular basis of controls over postnatal long bone growth.
"Radiographs of a 4 week-old rat with a titanium staple implanted into the medial aspect of the proximal tibia." Duties:
The duties of the lab staff include all levels of tissue processing, microtoming, staining, immunocytochemistry microscopical image analysis, photomicroscopy, and computer-based quantitative data analysis.
Responsibilities include:
-setting up and maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining records of use, preparing all materials and reagents, inventorying and ordering lab equipment and supplies, accounting, ordering animals, keeping records associated with the animals, and adhering to standards of safety in use and disposal of potentially toxic materials, including controlled substances.
-maintaining a handbook of procedures, including protocols to meet changing needs, and training students working in the lab in learning established techniques and procedures.
-performing routine library work such as literature searches and collection of relevant articles for developing new techniques.
-assisting in the development of materials for grant proposals, presentations, and publications.
