Title: 2005-06 Wildlife Oral Rabies Vaccination Program

For the period April 1, 2005 through March 31, 2006, the funding for the Wildlife Oral Rabies Vaccination (ORV) Program will distribute rabies vaccine baits and perform monitoring studies in the St. Lawrence, Niagara and Erie Regions of New York State. To achieve these program objectives, the funding will be used to purchase vaccine treated baits, contract the distribution of the baits via air and land, provide for salaries for staff, and other necessary expenses as outlined in the following budget to successfully conduct the distribution and monitoring program.
Dr. Laura Bigler will be the principal investigator for this contract. As such, she will be responsible for overall program management and oversight. In this role she will:
- Manage all details of the contract such as bait purchase and interaction with vaccine companies, bait distribution, supervision of staff, and communications and negotiations with local agencies, private groups, and individuals.
- Conduct research related to the vaccination of wildlife species and delivery methods.
- Make presentations and perform education/extension functions related to rabies and the goals of the Program.
Dr. Donald Lein, who has been associated with the Program for many years, will assist Dr. Bigler in the management of the Program and the successful accomplishment of the objectives listed above.
Jason Boulanger will provide direct program support in the field with logistics and the collection and analysis of collected data.
