Canine Influenza

Friday, November 17, 2017

(NY) Canine Influenza was detected in a 10 week old puppy which had had a respiratory illness of approximately 10 days duration. The puppy probably entered NY already infected, based upon the travel history provided for the puppy, onset of illness, and low level of virus detected consistent with a sub-acute infection. The influenza virus in this case cannot be typed due to the extremely low viral load detected. Many positive cases have been detected recently in submissions from Kentucky and Ohio. Recent positives also include individual cases from Indiana and Illinois. To see a map of cases in the past 45 days, go to Canine Influenza Virus Update.
