BS/MS seeking PhDs

Issahy Cano

Molecular and Cellular Medicine

I was born in Mexico, but grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. I am currently a research associate in the D’Amore lab at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, where I work on projects investigating the mechanisms in developmental and aberrant angiogenesis, particularly in the retina. My current interests are in cancer disease development and progression.

Jingyi Chen

Molecular and Cellular Medicine

I am Jingyi Chen. I was born in China and moved to the US with my family in high school. I got a bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. My research experience mainly relates to the procoagulant activity of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. I am interested in investigating cellular signaling in cancer and revealing possible cancer therapy.

Herbert Fountain

Immunology and Infectious Disease

I am a first-generation college student, who grew up on a dairy farm in Little Falls, NY. Previous work includes vaccine development for influenza and SARS-CoV-2 using adjuvants. My current and independent research project seeks to use bacteriophage as an alternative to antibiotics. I am interested in protein design, synthetic biology, and methods involving experimental evolution.

Dianne Gomez

Immunology and Infectious Disease

I am from Antioch, California and I am majoring in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Biomedical Research at UCLA. I conduct research under Valerie Arboleda in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine where I study how mutations in a chromatin modifier gene lead to a rare disease and would like to continue researching mechanisms of disease.

Brianna Knode

Translational Medicine

I grew up in Vancouver, Washington before moving to Pullman, Washington to attend Washington State University. My research experiences include investigating non-canonical mutations in melanoma, the relationship between CCN proteins and LPA in prostate cancer, and the role of the DREAM complex in small cell lung cancer. My interests are cancer, DNA damage, immunology, stem cell biology, and ageing.

Amanda Macias

Zoology and Wildlife Conservation

My name is Amanda Macias, I am from Los Angeles County in Southern California. My previous research experience includes two separate summer projects at UCSD and ONPRC through OHSU. My current research project is in Dr. Kelly A. Youngs' reproductive biology laboratory at CSULB. I am extremely passionate about research concerning reproductive biology, conservation biology, and species protection.

Marinel Ocasio-Rivera

Immunology and Infectious Disease

My name is Marinel Ocasio-Rivera; I am an undergraduate student at the University of Puerto Rico Ponce. I have performed research in cellular biology, immunology, developmental epigenetics, and cellular-molecular biology. I am interested in immunology, specifically in cell-to-cell communication, host-pathogen interactions, and inflammation, to better understand the mechanisms of immune cells.

AdePeju Oshodi

Immunology and Infectious Disease

My name is AdePeju Oshodi, many people call me 'Peju' (Page-You). I am from Indianapolis, Indiana and have spent a majority of my life in Indiana. I am a first-generation American and my parents are Nigerian. My previous research experience includes bacteria and virus, to alcoholic liver disease, and most recently food allergy. I am currently interested in adaptive, mucosal and genomic immunology.

DVM seeking PhDs

Name PICTURE Summary

Eleanor Best

Immunology and Infectious Disease

I grew up near Cambridge UK, graduating with a BVSc and MSc from Bristol University in 2021. I am passionate about targeted drug discovery and antibiotic resistance. My original research successfully targeted multi-drug resistant bacteria using nanoparticles, and I begin a 6-month research scholarship in January designing new antimicrobial therapies against ESKAPE pathogens and M. tuberculosis.

Anthony Chen

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Taiwan. I am a veterinarian intern now in an undergraduate program of DVM. I validated a bimolecular split-GFP reporter system for screening of novel influenza antiviral drugs in an undergraduate research project. Later, I developed strong interests in cancer biology, particularly how cancer initiation and progression is influenced by obesity.

Nnamdi Ikeogu

Immunology and Infectious Disease

I am, a highly motivated Veterinarian from Nnokwa, Nigeria, with a Masters degree in Immunology from Canada. My research interest, is understanding host-pathogen interactions. I have researched host interactions with Leishmania parasites and HIV till date. I hope to study the impact of immune ontogeny to disease outcome. other interests, are in veterinary immuno-pathology, serology and histology.

Elizabeth Williams Louie

Translational Medicine

I grew up in California; attended Oregon State University for undergrad and UC Davis for veterinary school. After vet school, I completed a 1-year internship at Littleton Equine; and returned to UC Davis for a large animal internal medicine residency. Through my residency I participated in several research projects and have an interest in translational and specifically cardiovascular research.

Combined DVM-PhD Program

Name PICTURE Summary
Gayatri Anil

Population Medicine

Gayatri is a senior at Penn State studying Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and is a Pittsburgh native. Her undergraduate research at PSU's Animal Diagnostic Laboratory under the guidance of Dr. Bhushan Jayarao has focused on developing a field-level diagnostic assay for infectious coryza. Her interests include research into disease pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnostic assay development.

Kimaya Bakhle

Molecular and Cellular Medicine

My name is Kimaya Bakhle and I am from Cleveland, Ohio! I received my B.S. in biochemistry from Purdue University, where I have conducted research in biochemistry, veterinary pathology, and comparative oncology. At Cornell, I am interested in pursuing research on cancer biology, mechanisms of metastasis, and precision medicine through the Combined Degree DVM-PhD program.
