Responding to Animals in Disasters
Location: Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Ithaca, NY
Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell is proud to present, Responding to Animals in Disasters, a two-day workshop for Cornell veterinary students and regional shelter staff, in collaboration with the ASPCA FIR team.
Topics will include community preparedness, incident command systems, management of staff and volunteers, setting up a temporary shelter, and disaster response simulation activities. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for students from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and representatives from several local humane organizations to come together to receive disaster response training, collaborate to assist with household pets and service animals, and take initial steps toward helping create a comprehensive multi-organization Disaster Response Plan for community animals in Tompkins and surrounding counties. This event was made possible through funding from Engaged Cornell and Maddie’s Fund®.
