Cornell Veterinary Podcast: How Horse Pregnancy Research Helps Humans

A woman with dark hair and glasses stands in her lab at the Baker Institute.

“What’s unique about horses is that, for gynecological care, horses are very intensely managed … because of this we can track the pregnancy, its growth, and if the pregnancy isn’t viable, we can access those tissues, and we can use this to discover new genes or genetic changes that might be responsible for miscarriage.”

Equine researcher Dr. Mandi de Mestre is director of Cornell Equine and the Baker Institute of Animal Health —  and our latest guest on the Cornell Veterinary Podcast. She joins show host Michelle Moyal, D.V.M.’ 07  to share her career journey,  what excites her about leading two major initiatives at the college, and a secret culinary talent.
