Inaugural OneCornell Health Educators Conference unites educators across campuses, health professions
How do we best prepare the future healers of humans and species of all kinds? On May 16-17, Cornell will answer that question. The inaugural OneCornell Health Educators Conference, hosted at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City and jointly organized by the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM)'s Veterinary Educators Academy, Weill Cornell Medicine's Educators Driving Growth & Excellence, and Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, is a first-of-its-kind hybrid event that will bring educators together across campuses and the health professions.
"We recognize that despite our different disciplines, we share remarkably similar challenges and goals as educators. By bringing our communities together, we can learn and create in ways that simply aren't possible within a single institution or profession", said Julia Felippe, Ph.D.’02, associate dean for community engagement at CVM.
The conference will tackle two interconnected themes at the heart of health profession education: clinical reasoning, from foundational definitions to innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment; and creating and communicating adaptive feedback, with best practices for training learners to receive and apply feedback effectively.
Participants will engage in keynotes, interactive workshops, panels, and a poster session, with opportunities and space for connection, innovation, reflection and professional growth across the health professions educators.
"Our goal extends beyond the conference itself," Felippe said. "We want to cultivate an enduring community of practice where educators from veterinary medicine, human medicine, and all health professions can continue to share ideas and drive excellence."
The goals for this annual event are to rotate sites with the Ithaca Campus and attract more educators in the health professions. “We have an amazing team organizing the conference with the common goal for an engaging high-quality event,” said Felippe.
