Join us to honor the leadership tenure of Dean Lorin Warnick with the establishment of the

Dean’s Legacy Scholarship

Dr. Lorin Warnick is entering his final year of service as the Austin O. Hooey Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. His term is expected to end in the summer 2026. To honor Dean Warnick’s countless achievements, the College Advisory Council Campaign Committee has launched the Dean’s Legacy Scholarship Campaign.

A Tenure of Leadership and Accomplishment

Dean Warnick has overseen significant advances in the college’s teaching, research and service missions since his appointment in 2016. Under his leadership, the college has raised $300 million in gifts to support its strategic priorities and countless programs.

Notably, under Dean Warnick’s leadership, the college launched major new initiatives including the Center for Veterinary Business and Entrepreneurship, the Richard P. Riney Canine Health Center, the Duffield Institute for Animal Behavior, the Department of Public and Ecosystem Health, the Dean’s Leaders Program, the K. Lisa Yang Center for Wildlife Health, the rebuilding of the Cornell Equine Park, and installation of a state-of-the-art manure separation system at the Teaching Dairy Barn. His career as dean will also be recognized by the exemplary achievement of guiding Cornell University’s nationally recognized pandemic response efforts in partnership with the Cayuga Health System, Weill Cornell Medicine and the Tompkins County Health Department to guide.

Dr. Warnick received his D.V.M. degree from Colorado State University and his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. He is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (1995). He joined the Cornell faculty in 1996 and has had responsibilities in clinical service and teaching in the Ambulatory and Production Medicine Service as well as research in the epidemiology of zoonotic infectious diseases and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Warnick also previously served as associate dean for veterinary education and director of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA).

An Unwavering Commitment to Affordability

Helping make the educational goals of DVM students more attainable has consistently been a priority of the Dean and his wife, Jill Warnick. In 2016, they established the George and Donna B. Warnick scholarship, which has provided tuition assistance to nine students since its creation.

Since the launch of the college’s prior strategic plan in 2018, and with the help of Dean Warnick and Jill Warnick along with countless additional donors, the college's $40 million scholarship campaign goal has nearly been reached, resulting in a decline in the debt-to-starting salary ratio for our graduates from 2:1 to 1:1. This achievement has had tremendous impact on the lives of hundreds of our DVM students and will continue to be an area of focus for the college throughout the future.

A Lasting Legacy

The Campaign Committee unanimously agreed that recognizing Dean Warnick's achievements with a new endowed scholarship would be very appropriate. Both Dean Warnick and Jill Warnick have selflessly and immeasurably dedicated themselves to the College of Veterinary Medicine and this opportunity will allow us to recognize and honor their unwavering commitment and vision. We invite you to join us with a contribution to the Dean’s Legacy Scholarship in honor of Lorin D. Warnick D.V.M., Ph.D.'94 and Jill T. Warnick.

Thank you for considering as generous a gift as possible.
