A new GLP-1 for weight management in overweight cats
Up to 2 out of 3 cats weigh too much. This puts them at risk for diseases like diabetes, can make it hard for them to move, and may shorten their lives. Diets can work but are often hard to stick to. A new drug, like new weight loss drugs you may have heard about for people, has been developed for cats.
If enrolled, your cat will receive ten weekly shots under the skin of either the new drug or a placebo (saline). Neither you nor the researcher will know which shot your cat is getting.
Eligibility: Cats must be evaluated by the Small Animal Community Practice (SACP) for eligibility.
Compensation: All costs of the study, including the screening visit, will be paid for by the study.
Owner Responsibilities: You will be asked to bring your cat to the SACP weekly for 12 visits including the screening visit. We will have you fill out a history form at each weekly visit. Your cat will have blood drawn to monitor their health at intervals throughout the study
