Roly Poly: A Tiny Kitten with a Big Heart

Roly Poly the cat

With his round face, soft fur and sweet, snuggly personality, Roly Poly quickly stole the hearts of everyone at the shelter. It was no surprise that he was quickly adopted by a loving family.

Shortly after settling into his new home, Roly Poly seemed off -- he was quieter than most kittens, not as playful, and growing more slowly than expected. Concerned, his family took him to their veterinarian, who recommended further testing.

Unfortunately, the cost of these tests was more than they could afford. Heartbroken and afraid they might have to return him to the shelter, the family reached out to Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program.

Thanks to support from generous donors, we were able to offer a different path.

Instead of separating Roly Poly from the only home he had ever known, our shelter’s medical team arranged for post-adoption medical visits and covered the cost of the diagnostic tests he needed. Roly Poly was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism, a rare but treatable condition in kittens.

With a simple daily thyroid supplement and continued monitoring, Roly Poly is now thriving, growing, playing and loving life like any healthy kitten.

Because of you, Roly Poly wasn’t returned to a cage -- instead staying in the arms of the people who loved him, preserving a powerful bond and giving a young family the chance to care for their kitten through thick and thin.

Every donation to our shelter helps us do more than rescue animals, it helps us support the people who love them.

Thank you for making it possible for us to say “yes” to Roly Poly and to the many others who need a second chance, a little extra care, and a whole lot of love.
